How to Practice Nature Therapy
Time spent in nature has a profound effect on us, and our nervous system is the first to respond to nature’s
positive influence. Through the nervous system, nature also affects digestion, detoxification, energy levels,
hormones, and how we feel — relaxed, calm, and at peace.
The body reconnects with the natural rhythms of the earth, and healing processes begin to activate more
efficiently. Plants, trees, fresh air, sunlight, and the earth itself carry natural vibrations that harmonise the
whole body system.
So, before your walk, set an intention. Say:
“This is my time — to relax, to be at peace, and to enjoy nature.”
Smile and step outside.
Walk and truly connect with your surroundings. Lift your head and look at the sky.
Walk barefoot on grass or earth. Lie down on the grass or sit quietly and practise conscious breathing:
Take a few series of 5 deep breaths, filling the lungs from the bottom, expanding through the sides, and finally up
toward the neck. Feel how your lungs move.
Walk and notice the trees — their shape, colour, and the movement of their branches. Hug trees, don’t be shy,
and feel their grounding presence and vibration.
Slow, deep breathing will make you feel safe and calm.
And while walking, be fully present.
Notice the sounds around you, the colours, the shapes, and the movement of the trees and clouds.
Find your favourite tree or flower and really observe it. Find a landscape that brings you peace and remember it.
If your mind drifts toward problems, stress, or past events, gently bring your attention back to the sky, the
landscape, or the nearest tree.
To make this nature outing a true ritual, begin and finish it with herbal teas.
They beautifully support the whole process.
Before your walk, have a tea made with:
- Dandelion root
- Cleavers
- Peppermint
- Oat tops
These herbs support detoxification, circulation, and gentle cleansing in the body.
After your walk, complete the day beautifully with a tea made from:
- Chamomile
- Rose damascena
- Lemon balm
- Nettle
This will leave you feeling calm, grounded, and energised at the same time.
And at the end, don’t forget to give thanks for the wonderful time you have just had.
